Hello, I am Emily
I work as a project manager, am a parent, and I’m an expat residing in London, United Kingdom.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
Origins of the Move
Moving to United Kingdom wasn't in our long-range plan. As with many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were intense — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning as we went. But gradually routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began crafting something that felt steady.
Why I Created Gadget Paper Oak
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation advice or skimpy tourism material. What was missing was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical advice grounded in real life in United Kingdom.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in United Kingdom
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism-authority resource
- Not a sponsored-review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in United Kingdom continues, and the learning journey goes on. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in London or anywhere in United Kingdom, please feel free to get in touch.
Warm regards,
Emily
